The Swim and Tennis Club Needs Your Help!
Bent Tree West Swim & Tennis Club ("Club") has been a main stay
of this community since it was originally built in 1986. It has been a
great place for neighbors to congregate, swim, play tennis, have cook outs, and
just relax especially during the hot summer months. In the last year, we
have begun to transform the Club into a gathering place. Where we can get together year-round with
friends and neighbors to foster a sense of community and involvement. Unfortunately, the facilities are in
desperate need of updates and repairs.
When the neighborhood and the Club were originally conceived, the deed restrictions required that membership was mandatory for the homes in phase four of Bent Tree West ("BTW"). This mandatory membership was intended to provide a base level of income to the Club to ensure its viability. Approximately 12 years ago, residents of phase four successfully petitioned to have this restriction removed, which eliminated a core source of funding for the Club.
Due to prudent fiscal management by the Club Boards and expanding the reach for additional memberships, the pool has been able to open every year. However, capital improvements have been postponed. The facility is at risk of becoming inoperable if repairs aren’t made. If the facility is not able to open, families will obviously be unable to enjoy the Club during the summer months, but it will be a great loss to our attempts to create a sense of community year-round. Furthermore, it would negatively impact the appearance and area home values.
The regular memberships and other fund-raising activities, that we continue to manage, have provided just enough income to cover the current annual operating costs of the Club, with little to no funds left over for any capital improvements. Therefore, we are reaching out to the entire neighborhood, and surrounding area in hopes of raising the necessary funds. The money raised will be used to repair or replace the following with those items in bold receiving highest priority:
We estimate the costs to do this correctly (and stop band-aiding everything) to be $100,000.
In order to be able to contract to have the required improvements completed and the pool open in time for the beginning of the swim season, we need to have $50,000 of the funds raised by January 31, 2018.
So, let's bring the Club back to something we can all be proud to have in our community. The Club should be an amenity to our area, and we want it to add value to our community. Help us make this more than just a swimming pool. Let’s make it a community of friends and neighbors. A donation of only $100 per BTW resident would provide the funds needed to make these improvements. Encourage your neighbors to do their part. If the pool is unable to open and is shuttered, it will negatively impact the community, Mitchell Elementary and property values!
